FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL 7V7 ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES ‘NIL ACADEMY’ IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DOUGLAS DIGITAL

Online course will prepare high school athletes to monetize their Name, Image, and Likeness

MIAMI, FL -- Florida High School 7v7 Association (FHS7v7A) and Douglas Digital announced today the launch of NIL Academy, an online course that prepares high school athletes to take advantage of changing policies governing college athletes’ ability to monetize their ‘Name, Image, & Likeness,’ commonly referred to as NIL.

NIL Academy empowers students with the essential combination of knowledge needed to succeed in the new landscape of college athletics. The online course provides a framework for understanding what NIL is, teaches principles of personal branding, offers an introduction to social media strategy, and provides additional guidance, such as how NIL considerations should fit into the recruiting process.

“While NIL opportunities are currently limited to student-athletes that have completed their high school eligibility, a high school student-athlete’s off-season is the perfect time to educate themselves on NIL and how to navigate these opportunities as they transition into the college setting,” said Will Dettor, Founder and Commissioner of FHS7v7A.

“Like everything else in college athletics, the environment is competitive, and we are excited to offer student-athletes in the Florida High School 7v7 Association the opportunity for an advantage when they get on their respective college campuses,” added Dettor. “Douglas Digital has put together a comprehensive, cutting-edge curriculum exclusively for our Association members and we are proud to be the first in Florida to offer something like this to high school student-athletes.”

The curriculum is developed and taught by Grace DeWitt, a sports marketing specialist whose work credits include the USC Trojans, New Orleans Saints, and New Orleans Pelicans. Through Douglas Digital, DeWitt provides brand marketing services to current and former professional athletes, among other clients. She also represents college athletes in the NIL space in tandem with veteran sports law attorney Jill McBride Baxter under NILImageMakers LLC.

“I have wanted to provide an education to high school athletes on NIL ever since California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Fair Pay to Play Act into law,” said DeWitt, referring to the first piece of state legislation dealing with NIL that was signed into law in September of 2019. “I truly believe that every day a high school athlete let's pass without preparing to take advantage of NIL is a dollar left on the table.”

Registration for NIL Academy will open November 8, 2021 alongside registration for participation in the 2022 FHS7v7A season. The curriculum will be available exclusively to FHS7v7A participants through the 2022 FHS7v7A State Championship weekend in June.
